Most people spend more time

…than thinking about eternity

How Long is Eternity?

Imagine a dove flying back and forth between the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, carrying one single drop of water at a time. With each journey, the bird transfers one drop from one ocean to the other. This process would take an incomprehensibly long amount of time—but this entire process would only be the beginning of eternity.

Setting goals in life has many practical advantages, helping us focus our efforts, measure progress, and achieve meaningful accomplishments. But there is a distinction we must make: the most important goals are for eternity. What we build for this life alone will fade, but what we do for God's kingdom and eternal purposes will endure forever.

The Parable of the Talents

"His master replied, 'Well done, my good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!'"
— Matthew 25:21

In this powerful parable, Jesus tells of servants entrusted with their master's resources. Some invested wisely, multiplying what they were given. Others played it safe, burying their talent in the ground. When the master returned, he celebrated those who were faithful, saying those unforgettable words: "Well done, my good and faithful servant."

To be clear, we are not saved by works.

Jesus didn't come to make bad people good. He came to make dead people live.

Faith in Jesus is all we need to be saved. Romans 10:9 says, "If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." The belief allows us to make the declaration.

Living to please God is a level beyond just being saved, however. So...

What will make God say "well done"?

Fellowship with God

From the very beginning in Genesis, we see God's desire for intimate relationship with humanity. He walked with Adam and Eve in the garden, created us in His image, and designed us for communion with Him. True faithfulness involves nurturing this relationship through prayer, meditation on His Word, and living in His presence daily.

"And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day." — Genesis 3:8

Great Commission - Making Disciples

Jesus' final command to His followers in Matthew 28 calls us to actively participate in God's redemptive work. This means sharing the Gospel, baptizing new believers, and teaching them to obey everything Christ commanded. Living for "well done" involves intentionally investing in others' spiritual growth and multiplying our faith.

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." — Matthew 28:19

Pure Religion - Care for the Vulnerable

James describes true religion as caring for widows and orphans while keeping oneself unstained by the world. This practical faith expresses itself through compassion and action toward those in need. God measures our faithfulness not just by what we believe, but by how we care for the marginalized and vulnerable in our communities.

"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress." — James 1:27

Love God and Love Others

When asked about the greatest commandment, Jesus summarized all of God's laws into two: love God with all your heart, soul, and mind, and love your neighbor as yourself. This dual command encompasses our entire lives — our worship, relationships, work, and service all flow from this foundation of love.

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind... Love your neighbor as yourself." — Matthew 22:37-39

Worship and Glory to God

Everything we do should bring glory to God. Whether in corporate worship, private devotion, or daily work, our lives become acts of worship when we acknowledge God's sovereignty and live for His purposes. True worship transforms every moment into an opportunity to honor the One who created us.

"So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." — 1 Corinthians 10:31

Saying Yes to Jesus

We were created to respond to Jesus' invitation to follow Him. This means embracing salvation through faith, committing to His Word as our authority, and offering our lives as living sacrifices. Every "yes" to Jesus — in obedience, sacrifice, and surrender — brings us closer to hearing those eternal words of approval.

"Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God." — Romans 12:1

Living for "Well Done"

Life is Temporary

We're given a finite amount of time, resources, and opportunities. Each day is a gift to invest in what truly matters for eternity.

💎

Faithfulness Matters

It's not about the size of what we're given, but what we do with it. God calls us to be faithful stewards of every blessing, talent, and moment.

👑

Eternity Awaits

One day, we'll stand before our Creator. The question isn't what we accumulated or what good things we did, but how we used what we were given for His glory.

Questions to Consider

What are you investing in?

Are you building something that lasts beyond this life, are you focused solely on temporary pleasures and achievements, or are you too busy to think about forever consequences?

What talents has God given you?

Every person has unique gifts, resources, and opportunities. Are you using yours to serve others and bring glory to God?

What will your legacy be?

When people remember you, what will they say? Most importantly, what will God say when you stand before Him?

Are you living for "well done"?

What would it look like to live each day with eternity in mind, making choices that align with hearing those words from Jesus?

Don't Wait to Start Living

Today is the day to begin living with purpose. To invest in eternity. To pursue the life that ends with "well done, good and faithful servant."

I wanna be a Weldon. Do you?
